How come it was named Wanderlust?

The author named it, hoping that this software would suit well in the mobile environment using IMAP. You can find the theme music in Tug Of War.

What are the code names after?

The music titles among the hits in good old 80's are arbitrarily chosen. For beta versions the 90's ones are used.

What is "WL"?

Abbreviation of vieW maiL (maybe ;-)

I have noticed that some functions include the word "elmo" in their names and that there is the directory "~/.elmo". What are they?

elmo is the acronym of Elisp Library for Message Orchestration, and is the name of the library, with which one can handle various messages in a unified way with Elisp. The cache and database of messages (emails) are stored in the directory ~/.elmo . Wanderlust is the programme written in elmo.

What are actually stored in ~/.elmo ?

The database stored in ~/.elmo includes the cache of the messages, of which the real files are stored somewhere remote, such as IMAP, and the information, which is used in displaying Summary.

I am using MicroSoft Outlook (Express). Is it possible to change the mailer into Wanderlust without losing the mails that I have already received and stored?

With DBX Export Tool you can transform DBX-formated files into the eml-format (1 file per 1 email). Now you can read the emails specifying the corresponding folder with "file:". Then, if necessary, you can further copy those emails or whatever.

Please write below!

  • Is ~/.address supported?
  • How about MH folders? How can I handle them?
  • How about ~/Mail/inbox ?
